Advanced Manufacturing
Advanced Manufacturing is vital to the economy
of both this region and the province of Alberta. Located in Nisku
and Leduc Business Parks, the region's innovative manufacturing
companies also supply the vital components needed to do business in
the oil sands. With a number of globally renowned manufacturing
companies in Alberta's International Region, Advanced Manufacturing
is a strategic asset for local industry.
Manufacturing Centre of
Excellence
The region's economy has evolved immensely in
the past 25 years, building on the strength of the oil and gas
sector to become strong and diverse. Internationally renowned
manufacturing companies such as Arctic Spas, Fiberex and Phoenix
Reman Group, contribute to the reputation of the region as an
economic powerhouse full of partnership opportunities. Each year,
international delegations come to Alberta to take part in
provincial and national manufacturing tradeshows, yet always pass
through Alberta's International Region to build new partnerships
through events facilitated by the Leduc-Nisku Economic Development
Authority.
The region has formed partnerships around the
globe in Germany, China and the United States, as well as Canadian
partnerships with the Yukon, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada,
enabling the exchange of ideas, products and labour, creating new
opportunities for the region and further strengthening the diverse
economy.
LEAN Manufacturing
Alberta's Manufacturing Sector is embracing LEAN
practices to improve product quality, increase production
quantities and broaden product lines. Adopting LEAN practices is a
continuous cycle of analysis and action. In an age of economic
explosion with a tight labour market, LEAN manufacturing eliminates
non-value-added steps and empowers employees with greater
responsibility and broader roles. The resultant lean processes mean
reduced pressure on the workforce and enhancing the bottom
line.
